Sugarloaves’ Ultra Vista (S.U.V.) Trail Races
Sat. Jan. 31, 2015
60Km (37.5 mi.), 30 mi., 25Km (15.6 mi.), 4.25 mile.
All races start 8:20 a.m. in Vado, New Mexico. Start/finish/ parking area = 2 miles east of I-10 Vado exit (exit #155). Follow winding paved road EAST, uphill, passing large gravel operation, and look for large “Sierra Vista trail” sign just past a power-lines crossing. Turn left off paved road and parking is soon after the big trail head sign.
Awards: Finishers of all races receive medals. Note: If you sign up for the 60Km but stop at 30 miles, you are considered a finisher (we also have time cut-off at 30 miles). For all other races, you must finish the distance for which you sign up to receive a finisher’s medal.
ALL runners get tech t-shirts. We also have dozens of raffle and door prizes– must be present to win. 1st and 2nd place M/F finishers in longer two races get pair of Asics or Saucony running shoes.
AID: Our major aid station is in the parking area and is passed at several points throughout the races (detailed course map will be posted ASAP). There are other smaller aid stations every 2-3 miles along trail, generally self-serve tables with lots of drinks, gels, light snacks.
DISTANCES are as accurate as possible, but keep in mind that there are sometimes last-minute trail relocations or bypasses for a variety of reasons. These are trail races after all. Perhaps more important is knowing that there is some very soft sand in several places on the course, and some other footing is rocky and loose. The CLIMB (elev. gain) in 60Km = 3,150′. Altitude varies between 4,100′>4,420′. No single climbs taller than 50-60 feet, but again some of those climbs/ drops are on rough footing.
More detailed course description and map posted separately.
You may CAMP at the start area, but it can be awfully cold at night. Normal lows = 32F, normal highs 59F. A big campgrund is 2 miles down the road at Vado exit. Many motels nearby in Las Cruces and El Paso. Two truck stops with last minute food items are at the Vado exit.
Please feel free to contact us with any other questions.
We look forward to welcoming you in person to the high desert trails.
